WPUSD is committed to, and recognized for, excellent GATE programs for our gifted students! We were one of only four districts statewide named in 2013 as a recipient of the coveted California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Five Star Award. Our District focus and prioritization on providing professional development to District teachers and providing differentiated instructional programs for GATE and High Achieving (HA) students were instrumental in receiving the award. Our GATE/HA programs in the Western Placer Unified School District are designed to offer a variety of curriculum and program choices to GATE-identified elementary, middle and high school students and their families. Program offerings can be found both during the school day and after school. To see the CAG Five Star Award Letter, click here. For a photo of the proud recipients, click here. The process of GATE/HA student identification begins in February each school year in Grades 1 - 3. It begins with a screening survey for parents who are interested in seeing whether their child would benefit from more formalized GATE testing. Results of the Parent Survey, the Teacher Survey,GATE testing (with parent permission), and State and District Assessments are then considered to determine a child's eligibility for GATE or HA designation. Parents of students who qualify for GATE/HA designation are invited to a parent information evening to more fully understand District GATE/HA programs.
